Walking in Pontneddfechan

We had planned to do a challenging 9 mile walk on the western border of the Brecon Beacons at Fforest Fawr. We were hoping to get to Sgwd yr Eira (translated to Waterfall of snow), where you can walk behind the waterfall - without getting wet (much!). Unfortunately, the path leading to this waterfall was closed - due to dangerous overhang.

So instead we took a more leisurely stroll of 6 miles along the Elidir Trail at Pontneddfechan. Oh well, plenty of time left to get from 6 miles to 63. Or is there? In fact we have only 10 weeks left (mild panic).

We passed by several waterfalls - with some great names:

Sgwd Gwladus (Waterfall of the Chieftan)
Sgwd y pannwr (Waterfall of the cloth washer)

Saw lots of flora and fauna along the way. There was wild garlic growing aplenty – the smell was powerful! The bluebells were in full colour, and looked fantastic. At the waterfalls, we saw birds nesting in the crevices of the rock – we think they were dippers.

A good days walking – looking forward to next weekend for some more! And back to the gym for some leg-strengthening exercises!!
